Quest for the Sound of Truth

Why WINAMP is my all-time favorite music player?

Well, there are PLENTY of reasons I can point out, which leads me to believe WinAmp is THE BEST music player (not video, as I prefer & believe in VLC for videos – without doubt) for PCs out there. I though I’d share some of them today with you! 🙂

1) The Super Library-Seach Tool

WinAmp Power Search

The amazing library search tool lets you instantly find any song / artist / album / genre / etc combination – and play it right away. In addition to this simplicity, you can also add / remove / arrange / resize library columns according to your need. Once sorted, it makes life quite easy!

2) Simplicity & Shortcuts:

If you really know how to work on computers, you probably know that the easiest way to manage your work is through keyboard shortcuts. You can resize / rearrange WinAmp in several ways. Double-click the title bar to switch between WinShade / Full Screen mode, mouse over (Windows 7) to quickly pause / play / previous or next song! While in focus, use keyborad shortcuts (Z, X, C, V, B) to do the same. There are tons of such shortcuts, which, once you’re used to them, makes you feel like you really are in control!
In addition to these, you can check out tons of other personalization / enhancement tools by going changing Preferences [Ctrl + P] in Options menu.

Go find a treasure of tools in the Preferences. If you prefer to listen music while working, simply enable Global Hot Keys, and control winamp even when you’re making a report or playing a full screen game (see below)!

Wasn’t that fun? Well, wait, there’s more to it.

3) Manage Your Music Library

I love the way I can manage all my music using one simple media library option – Watch Folders. Here, you inform WinAmp which in folders of your PC you keep your music. Then, set the options for automatic media scanning, adding and removal of media files from WinAmp database. Then, whatever you want to play, simply search it in the Library View. No more hassles in searching the location of that old favorite song – just type in artist name or album name or song or its genre, and its there.

Outstanding, ain’t it?

4) ID3 Tagging

This is where you update the information of any song once and for all! The simple ID3 tagging option can be accessed through double clicking song name in main player window or by shortcut [Alt + 3]. Quite useful for DIY artists like me.

5) Visualization at its Best

WinAmp Visualization rocks!!

Looking at these kind of visualizations while playing your favorite music just makes you want to sit back, relax and enjoy! 🙂

Well, there are some of my favorite things in WinAmp. I know there are tons of such useful stuff inside WinAmp – such as Notification Bar, Scrolling Info on Taskbar, PodCast subscription, free SHOUTCast radio, free songs everyday, etc, etc, et cetera. May be I’ll add them later, or leave it to you to find them out!? 😉

Anyways, have fun with music! Let me know if you too believe in Living Through Music. I’m all my ears!

Nice post,I should go back and try winamp again. It’s been a while but I did always like it’s simpleness and the trippy visuals were alway a bonus.
